RAM Law attorney Matt Bonanno obtained a $275,000 settlement for a RAM Law client who was injured in a collision with a para-transit bus. The RAM Law client was driving on Oak Hill Road, approaching the intersection with Route 35 in Middletown. The defendant was operating a para-transit bus, which was carrying senior citizens for an adult care facility . As the RAM Law client approached a red light at the intersection, she attempted to change from the middle lane into a left-turn lane. At the same time, the bus driver attempted the same maneuver. The entrance/exit door of the bus struck the driver’s side corner panel of the RAM Law client’s car. As a result of the crash, the RAM Law client suffered a large herniated disc in her neck, necessitating surgery. The defendant argued that the RAM Law client turned into his bus after he had already entered the left turn lane, while Mr. Bonanno argued that the defendant failed to satisfy the heightened standards required for professional CDL drivers. The defendant also argued that the herniated disc was not caused by the collision, but rather it was caused when the RAM Law client went on vacation following the collision. The matter was settled one month before trial, during a court ordered settlement conference.
