RAM Law’s client, a resident of Winfield Park, slipped off an uneven step resulting in a bimalleolar ankle fracture of her ankle. An orthopedic surgeon used medical hardware to screw the fractured bones in place to allow healing. The client subsequently developed an infection which required the surgeon to remove some of the hardware. RAM Law submitted a claim against the Winfield Mutual Housing Corporation for the injuries. Unfortunately, the Housing Corporation pointed the finger at other parties and refused to make a voluntary settlement offer. As a result, RAM Law filed a lawsuit. After almost two years of litigation, including a deposition of the Mayor of Winfield, the matter settled as a jury was about to enter the courtroom. Despite its failure to offer any money prior to litigation, the Housing Corporation paid the majoity of the $135,000 settlement.
